Schools are under increasing pressure to provide a 21st century home learning platform. Robert Halfon, Tory chairman of the Education Select Committee, has called for an online education strategy. He has asked education watchdog Ofsted and local authorities to work closely with schools to set “clear guidance” for online learning. Schools have been told they need a contingency plan in place by the end of September.
By now your school should have taken up the DfE's offer of a FREE home learning system. This is much more than a glorified homework platform and if correctly "rolled out" can give a massive boost to children's digital and literacy skills. Your free training doesn't begin to cover what this system can offer to children and the way they access work, taking them from consumers of information to publishers of content.
This course covers your Home Working Contingency Plan (template provided), setting up your classroom, getting parents and guardians involved, top tips for blended learning (flipping your classroom) and much more.

The way children use IT has been greatly "dumbed" down over the last 10 years. We are living in a 21st century digital age and while a lot of investment has gone into adult digital skills, very little or none has been invested in children. We aim to address the balance. Read More >>
We can't do this alone that is why our sponsors are so important. We are looking for businesses who are willing to support this idea are are willing to fund training by committing to a small about every 8 weeks or so. Read More >>
When we talk about young people we mean children of primary school age. Children between 7 and 11 years of age should be given the opportunity to develop grass root digital skills along with reading, writing and arithmetic. Skills they can use all their lives.
It's not just about digital skills, we want children to be able to work as teams, find the answers to their own questions, to be creative and use some of the cloud based platforms adults use. These are major life long skills and we want to make sure that children pick up these skills at a very early age
We want schools to form digital hubs that will allow children from different area's and backgrounds to work together and get to know each other. We want children to be able to swap and share ideas and experiences on a safe cloud based platform allowing them to work from any device, anytime.
The Northen Powerhouse says "Our vision is to provide world-class education, training and care for everyone, whatever their background. It will make sure that everyone has the chance to reach their potential, and live a more fulfilled life"
If we are to close the "North / South" skills gap we need to give children 21st century skills. Digital Skills they can use in education, digital skills they can use in college and university and skills they can eventually use in employment.
If you are a local business think about becoming a sponsor and help support children's digital skills across Greater Manchester.
